Higher premium when returning to UWV

If you are currently self-insured for the ‘Ziektewet’ (Sickness Benefits Act) and plan to return to an insurance through the UWV (the Institute for Employees’ Insurances and Regulations) on or after January 1, 2022, you will have to pay a higher ‘terugkeerpremie’ (return premium). This amendment to the ‘Besluit Wet financiering sociale verzekeringen’ (Decree on Financing of Social Insurances Act) has been published online on www.internetconsultaties.nl (in Dutch only). Your organization is either self-insured (and possibly privately insured) for the Sickness Benefits Act or has taken out an insurance through the UWV. If you cancel your self-insurance and return to an insurance through the UWV, you must pay a return premium. Small businesses pay an industry-dependent premium, medium-sized and large businesses pay half the industry-dependent premium. However, the current situation has resulted in a shortage in financing. Therefore, all business will pay the full industry-dependent premium as of January 1, 2023. This also applies to medium-sized and large businesses that will return to an insurance through the UWV on January 1, 2022, or July 1, 2022. They will also pay the full industry-dependent premium as of January 1, 2023.
